First announced as something to look forward to back in 2022, we are excited to announce the release of the Share Table Toolkit for Schools!

The toolkit was created for schools and community organizations working with schools. The goal is to help schools start share tables to reduce food waste and combat food insecurity while keeping food safe to eat.

The Share Table Toolkit for Schools is based on research conducted at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign and Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, plus the Multi-State Share Table Pilot Study that partnered with SNAP-Education, a federal nutrition education and obesity prevention program.

In the toolkit, you will find essential information and tips:

  • Preventing foodborne illness
  • Working with health departments
  • Communicating with staff
  • Promoting share tables to students and caregivers
  • Evaluating your program

Resources (e.g., flyers, posters, templates) are included to support share table initiatives.
